Ukraine Russia War: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Ukraine’s military has retaken 6,000 square kilometers (2,320 sq mi) of territory from Russia in retaliation this month. “Since the beginning of September, our troops have already liberated 6,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in the east and south. Now we are moving forward,” President Zelensky said in his address.
Ukraine also occupied Kharkiv region in the northeast
Ukraine has claimed sweeping successes in its counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region in the northeast, taking back dozens of areas including the cities of Izium, Kupiyansk and Balaklia. At the same time, Russia has also admitted that its forces have withdrawn from the area southeast of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city. In such a situation, this strategically important area has been occupied by the Ukrainian army. Due to this the danger of enemy attack on Kharkiv has also been reduced considerably.
Ukraine also claimed great success in the southern Kherson region
Ukraine has also claimed great success in the southern Kherson region. The Ukrainian military said earlier on Monday that it had captured 500 square kilometres. The US-based Institute for the Study of War think tank said that “Ukraine has turned the war on its side, but the current counter-attack will not end the war.” At present, Russia has been stunned by Ukraine’s retaliation and now the Russian army is fleeing from many areas of Ukraine.
