Pakistan Political Crisis: Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) today to discuss the alleged audio leak from his office. The opposition has taken an aggressive stand on this issue and is demanding the resignation of Shehbaz Sharif. Last week, audio of alleged secret conversations with top officials of the prime minister’s government had gone viral on social media, raising questions about the security of the country’s top office.
Some audios were leaked on Monday
On Monday, some audio records leaked in which leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) can be heard talking about the strategy for the by-election. The recent by-elections in Pakistan were postponed due to severe floods.
A joint investigation team has been constituted to investigate the matter, including representatives of the army’s intelligence agencies. IB is also investigating this leak case. Officials said that the preliminary report prepared in the matter by top intelligence agencies will be presented before the NSC, the apex military and civil body on security matters.
Opposition is continuously attacking
According to the news of The Express Tribune newspaper, it was told in an official statement on Monday that the meeting of the NSC will be held at the Prime Minister’s residence today. Top military and civil leadership and officials including Defense Minister, Home Minister, Information Minister, Finance Minister will participate in this meeting.
It is noteworthy that on Monday the former Prime Minister Imran Khan had demanded the resignation of Shahbaz Sharif on this issue. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party president Khan said, “Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif should resign after audio of talks of some cabinet ministers and officials was leaked.”
