Salman Butt on Virat Kohli: Last year, Virat Kohli had to leave the captaincy only because he could not get a single ICC trophy to Team India under his captaincy. In his place, Rohit Sharma was given the command of all three formats of Team India. However, even under Rohit’s captaincy, Team India could not win the T20 World Cup 2022 title. Now the reaction of former Pak cricketer Salman Butt has come on this.
Salman Butt has said on his YouTube channel, ‘There was no valid reason to remove Kohli from the captaincy. The only reason was that he could not get the ICC trophy to the team. How many captains have won the ICC trophy so far? Many captains did not get the ICC trophy in their entire career. Have they (Team India) won the trophy now?
Salman Butt said, ‘He was a capable captain. He was not the only reason for the team’s defeat. It is not that the team has improved a lot now. If it is only a matter of making the team win, then Dhoni can still play.
Butt said, ‘T20 format is such that anything can happen. And then T20 World Cups are also happening continuously. Meanwhile, many franchise leagues are played. Amidst all this, if you have a player (Virat Kohli) who is fit and can lead you strategically, then why not let him be the captain?’
Captaincy was handled after Dhoni
After leaving the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the command of Team India in all three formats of cricket came in the hands of Virat Kohli. Under Virat’s leadership, Team India registered memorable victories in Test matches in Australia and England, he also had a good record in bilateral ODIs and T20 series, but he could never win the ICC trophy for his team.
