Mumbai Indians (MI) have not started well in this season of IPL. The team had to face defeat in both the initial matches. Apart from captain Rohit Sharma, the coach is also worried about this. Mumbai coach Mahela Jayawardene feels that his team should have chased down the target in their second match of IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals but could not finish the match well. Mumbai Indians were set to chase down a target of 193 runs but the team faltered after the dismissals of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma and lost to Rajasthan by 23 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.
Jayawardene said if a batsman had stayed till the end, the result could have been different for the five-time champion. The Mumbai coach said, “I think we timed it well while chasing the target and we had a bad over with the bat where we lost two of our main batsmen. So we really wanted to play the match. Couldn’t finish well. We have to be capable and finish the match well.”
Mahela was also worried about his bowling. He said that he is good but has to bowl better in the crucial moments of the match. He said, “I think it is a very disappointing result for us. We gave 70 runs in three bad overs, which means we bowled 17 overs for 120 runs on a really good wicket. In terms of skill, we are very good. But there is a need to do better.” The defeat against Rajasthan was Mumbai’s second consecutive defeat in the current season of IPL.
