Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ravindra Jadeja blamed lack of first ball ‘pace’ for their 54-run defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings in Brabourne on Sunday. Jadeja further said that the team is just waiting for a win, which it will take till the end of the IPL. Liam Livingstone’s 60 off just 32 balls took Punjab Kings to 180 in 20 overs, after which the team’s bowlers, especially Rahul Chahar (3/25) and Livingstone (2/25) took the defending champions to 54. Runs stopped on 126 for the win. This was the third defeat of CSK in this season of IPL under the leadership of new captain Jadeja. Jadeja took just one wicket while bowling.
Jadeja said after the match, “In T20 cricket it is a one match thing. If you win a match, you will catch the winning momentum. One win will put us on the right track and give us the momentum because all our players are so experienced.” You don’t need to tell anyone anything because everyone knows the way they play their game. We are working hard for that.” He said it was important to support the players as they have all been match winners.
He further said, “We have 4-5 Indian fast bowlers. We are looking to support them. You cannot question the players with a loss in 1-2 matches. We have to support them. I think We didn’t get the pace we were looking for from the first ball.” Right-arm pacer Chris Jordan, who had a decent start for CSK with two wickets, said, “It was a pleasure to play with MS Dhoni, it was a dream of mine to be in his team.”
